What you'll Learn

This qualification provides an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills required when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers all aspects of Specialist Support, some examples include; planning delivery and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher equality and inclusion special needs support personal development reflective practice children’s development theoretical perspective behavior management health and safety communication and relationship development.

You will complete 11 mandatory units and choose from a large range of optional units in order to complete the required number of credits. Your tutor/assessor will offer guidance on which optional units will best fit your role in your school.

A voluntary work placement in either a primary or secondary school working with the years 1 and above, is required for a minimum of 2 days per week.

You have been employed in the role for a considerable period or an experienced volunteer. You will be provided with a secure understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in school environments.

What to expect

A voluntary work placement in either a primary or secondary school working with the years 1 and above, is required for a minimum of 1 day per week.

You will be required to come into Achievement Training’s City Centre location for once a month for half day tutorials.

Your tutor will support your throughout the course. The Delivery of the qualification is done mainly at the workplace, the assessor will visit the work place every 6-8 weeks. You will receive a login to an on-line portfolio account, which can be accessed from any Wifi point at work at home or in our centre or through 3/4G. You will be provided with a detailed course programme. At centre you will have the opportunity to network with other learners and to share practice and access to different resources to support your learning including laptops, desktops, tablets and textbooks.

The course can be completed as part of an intermediate Apprenticeship moving onto advanced and higher Apprenticeships.
