What you'll Learn
This qualification will provide you with the knowledge and skills required for working directly with children or young people in a range of schools including primary, secondary or special needs schools. You will need to be supporting the teaching and learning of pupils who are aged 5 years or older. This qualification is not suitable for learners wishing to work in a foundation class.
A voluntary work placement in either a primary or secondary school working with the years 1 and above (age 5+) is required for a minimum of 6 hours per week – this can either be 1 full day or 2 half days. You will be required to come into Achievement Training’s City Centre location once a month for half day tutorials.
You want a good, solid foundation for starting a career in supporting teaching and learning in a school. It will help you to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to work in this sector. This course is aimed at people who have little or no experience of working in a classroom environment.
What to expect
The Delivery of the qualification is done mainly at the workplace, the assessor will visit the work place every 6-8 weeks. You will receive a login to an on-line portfolio account, which can be accessed from any Wifi or 3/4G point. You will be provided with a detailed course programme and your tutor will support your throughout the course. At centre you will have the opportunity to network with other learners and to share practice and access to different resources to support your learning including laptops, desktops, tablets and textbooks.
The qualification can be completed as an intermediate Apprenticeship or as a stand alone course.

- Teaching assistant
- Learning support assistant
- Special needs assistant
