Smartblood are recruiting for a Business Administration Apprentice to work for our company based near Tavistock. The role includes a wide variety of tasks, and the successful applicant will be involved in several areas of the business.

Vacancy description:

Due to the nature of the business the roles and responsibilities will be varied and so we are looking for someone who will:

  • Be confident using the phone when talking to both internal and external customers
  • Confident in responding to email and live chat enquiries
  • Comfortable using a computer and Microsoft Office
  • Desire to learn new skills, systems, and procedures
  • Attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Collating, reporting and archiving information
  • A proactive attitude and someone who is results motivated
  • Answering client's questions over live chat, telephone and email
  • Sending professional letters and email correspondence to clients
  • Dispatching client test kit orders and marketing materials
  • Corresponding with existing and new customers over email, to inform them of new products and services
  • Working closely with our Customer Service Manager to help develop new business

Training to be provided:

You will receive specific on the job training from the employer in your work place. Off the job training will be provided by Achievement Training in the following areas:

  • QCF Diploma in Business and Administration Level 2
  • Certificate in Business Administration Skills Level 2
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths and ICT Level 1 - if required
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Skills required:

  • Confident communicating face to face, over the telephone and via email
  • Excellent IT skills, especially in Excel
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Comfortable using a computer and Microsoft Office
  • Strong desire to learn new skills and systems
  • Attention to detail
  • Reliable and a good team player

Personal qualities:

  • Proactive with a positive attitude to achieve results
  • A passion for business and aptitude to learn new skills
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions and listen to advice
  • Friendly, with a positive attitude
  • Good time keeping and punctuality
  • Computer literate
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as an individual

Qualifications required:

GCSE's in English and Maths to Level 4 (Grade C) or equivalent.

Future prospects:

The ideal candidate would be someone who would like to gain experience in the health industry and/or business development - there will be a permanent role available for the candidate should their Apprenticeship be successful.

Progression opportunities may also include advanced and higher apprenticeships, including which can equate to:

  • NVQ Level 3 equivalent - 2 A Levels
  • NVQ Level 4 equivalent - Higher Education Certificate/BTEC
  • NVQ Level 5 equivalent - Higher Education Diploma/Foundation Degree

Other important information:

  • Due to the location of the Employers office, the successful candidate will need the ability to travel by car, or live in the local area, with access to direct bus routes.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge and skills at work and in college

Apprentices without Level 1 English and Maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 2 English and Maths prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.

In April 2019 the National Minimum Wage for Apprentices has risen to £3.90 per hour. The National  Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices, the National Minimum Wage appropriate for their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
