The Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship at the Met Office can offer you the support, training and industry recognised qualifications to get you on the path to a career as an IT Technician.
As an Apprentice at the Met Office, you will have the opportunity to spend 12 months working a team covering a range of IT services allowing you to develop your knowledge, skills and understanding whilst contributing to the Met Office aims. You will gain SFIA Level 3 professional competence, eligibility onto the register of IT technicians and a reward package including a starting salary of £13,000.
The IT services squad is the first line of defence for work coming into our IT teams and as such benefits from working across a range of different technology areas. You will be a key part of this team, supporting the delivery of Met office services both internally to our staff and externally to our customers. This is a critical role in ensuring that our services are delivered to time and quality ensuring the organisation is able to operate smoothly.
Essential Skills and Eligibility:
- Hold a minimum of 5 GCSE's grades A* - C (9-4) or equivalent including English and Maths at grade B/C or above.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Are able to plan and organise work using own initiative yet work collaboratively with a team
- Have good problem solving skills and a strong customer focus
- Demonstrate a passion for wanting to work in IT

This post requires you to gain full security clearance due to the nature of the role. From April 2018 the National Minimum wage for apprentices rises to £3.70 per hour. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
